Year-End Lists

They annoy me every year.

They don’t have perspective. Who cares if someone likes something in a certain year? The whole field is distorted. Sometimes we like something because of a microblip, or because it’s responding directly to something else, or is similar but slightly different from another book or movie or album. We need a longer view.
